Newborn Wellness Center

Newborn Special Care Associates, the dedicated neonatology practice of Jefferson Abington Hospital, provides follow-up care and periodic developmental check-ups for "graduates" of our Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

Outpatient follow up for NICU graduates born at 35 weeks gestation or less and other high-risk infants begins at one to two weeks after discharge. Graduates seen at the Newborn Wellness Center have comprehensive care from our developmental Ph.D.-prepared nurse, neonatal dietitian and neonatologist.

Infant’s “graduate” from this program after they are three months past their due date.  This service is in addition to normal pediatric care provided by your family’s pediatrician of choice.

The Newborn Wellness Center is located at 1400 Old York Road, Suite D in Abington. For more information, please call 215-481-6620.

Neonatal Follow-Up Program

Following the Newborn Wellness Center, infants born at less than 32 weeks gestation and other high-risk infants will continue to be seen by Newborn Special Care Associates in our Neonatal Follow-Up Center.

Following a child’s discharge from the Newborn Wellness Center, visits occur according to your child’s “adjusted” age. For example, if a child is eight months old but was born two months early, their adjusted age is six months.

The frequency of a child’s appointments depends on his or her specific needs. However, the typical schedule includes visits at six months, 12 months, 18 months, and 24 months. For children ages two to seven, visits occur once a year.

Your child will have an individualized appointment for their specific healthcare and developmental needs. Our highly trained care team includes experts in neonatology, developmental psychology, nutrition and other healthcare specialties.

The Neonatal Follow-up Program located at 1400 Old York Road, Suite E in Abington. For more information, please call 215-481-6650.
