Hybrid Operating Room
Jefferson Health – Abington’s hybrid operating room is one of only a handful in the Philadelphia region.
With the latest technology and features to support both catheter-based, minimally invasive procedures and open surgeries in one setting, the advanced suite enables specialists from several fields to work together or in tandem.
Advantages of Hybrid OR
Before the hybrid OR, procedures had to be staged, first in interventional radiology or cardiac catheterization laboratories, then with surgery at a later date.
Larger than a standard operating room, the hybrid OR fits fluoroscopy equipment from the catheterization laboratory and high-definition OR video technology. 3D monitors overlay MRI and CAT scan imaging. Multiple monitors around the hybrid OR let physicians, technologists and nurses view patient progress and vitals.
The hybrid OR allows for combined procedures with one stay and recovery for the patient – a more efficient and safe process. It was named in honor of V. Paul Addonizio, MD, a cardiothoracic surgeon at Abington Memorial Hospital.
Hybrid OR Procedures
Vascular surgeons, cardiothoracic surgeons, interventional cardiologists, neurosurgeons and neuro-interventionalists use the hybrid OR.
Procedures performed include: endovascular abdominal aortic repair, endovascular thoracic aortic repair, transcatheter aortic valve replacement and minimally invasive valve repair or replacement.
