Valve Surgery - Porter Institute for Valvular Heart Disease
Surgeons at the Porter Institute repair, replace and transplant heart valves.
We are committed to achieving the best results in the gentlest way possible. Many of our valve surgeries are performed as minimally invasive procedures.
Valve Treatments
Our specialists repair and reconstruct heart valves when possible, performing mitral valve repair, aortic valve repair and similar surgeries. Repair treatments lessen complications and help the heart function efficiently.
When repair is not possible, we have deep expertise replacing faulty or diseased valves with mechanical and tissue replacements. The type of replacement valve depends upon your health, age and lifestyle. Some patients are able to receive valve transplants. We have a large homograft (human valve) bank.
We perform other complex valve surgery, such as TAVR (transcatheter aortic valve replacement) for older or high-risk patients and those unable to have open surgery, aortic valve bypass and ventricular remodeling.
