Inpatient Care
When hospitalization is needed, Jefferson Health – Abington provides the best inpatient care after cardiovascular procedures, surgery or for other heart needs.
Our specialized heart inpatient units at Jefferson Abington Hospital (Cardiac Surgery, Cardiac Intensive Care and Heart Failure) provide close monitoring of patients by teams of board-certified physicians and highly experienced cardiac nurses.
Special Unit for Heart Surgery
After cardiothoracic surgery, including open-heart and valve procedures, patients receive care in the Cardiac Surgery Unit (CSU). Specialists from cardiology and pulmonary/critical care, in addition to each patient’s cardiac surgeon, manage CSU care. The unit’s heart surgery nurse practitioners are board-certified in acute care for patients who have undergone complex cardiac surgery procedures.
Cardiac Intensive Care Unit
Seriously ill patients recovering from heart attack, chest pain (angina), and heart rhythm disorders are tended in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU). Expert cardiologists and cardiac nurses staff the CICU, using advanced technology for 24-hour monitoring.
Heart Failure Unit
Part of our Comprehensive Heart Failure Program, this unit focuses on care for heart failure patients. The Heart Failure Unit team includes electrophysiologists, highly skilled with the latest device therapies, as well as cardiologists and nurse practitioners with heart failure training. Technology features the latest telemetry for monitoring and aquapheresis ultrafiltration to treat a complication of heart failure.
