Cardiothoracic Surgery
The words, “You need heart surgery,” can feel overwhelming.
The cardiothoracic surgery experts at the Abington Heart and Vascular Institute – Jefferson Health have performed thousands of procedures. They are highly skilled in the newest and best techniques in minimally invasive and open heart surgery.
What’s more, they are dedicated to listening to you and committed to providing exceptional care.
Minimally Invasive Heart Surgery
Our cardiothoracic surgeons use minimally invasive procedures whenever possible. Performed through small incisions, minimally invasive surgery is easier on patients, reduces certain risks and shortens recovery time.
When open surgery is necessary, our team has longstanding experience with open procedures.
Broad Heart Surgery Capabilities
We conduct the latest surgical treatments for a wide range of heart conditions. Among these many procedures: heart bypass with CABG (coronary artery bypass grafting); valve repair, replacement and transplant; robotic-assisted heart surgery; ventricular remodeling; VAD (ventricular assist device) heart pump implantation; Maze surgery; open-heart surgery; congenital structural heart repair; pacemaker and defibrillator implantation and lead extraction; aortic valve bypass and more.
Patient Experience
Procedures are performed in heart surgery operating rooms. These large rooms are designed to accommodate the latest surgical technology as well as a specialized team. Inpatient care includes a Cardiac Surgery Unit, Cardiac Intensive Care Unit and Heart Failure Unit, all staffed by physicians and nurses with special heart care training.
