Stroke Telemedicine Consults & Transfers
Through a sophisticated telemedicine system, specialists from The Diamond Stroke Center can evaluate stroke patients in other hospitals’ emergency departments – in real time.
Together, the physicians may decide that local care is appropriate or that the patient should be transferred to Jefferson Abington Hospital for more advanced technology and treatment by our experts.
How Telemedicine Consult Works
The telemedicine system enables emergency physicians at other hospitals to consult with experts at The Diamond Stroke Center, designated a comprehensive stroke center by the Joint Commission and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association.
Designed with secure videoconferencing technology, the system makes it possible for our physicians to: talk with doctors at the other hospital; speak with the patient and family; examine the patient; review medical history and laboratory results; view radiology images.
This happens quickly, so transfer can be fast if needed. Jefferson Health – Abington’s One-Call Transfer Service handles transfers rapidly, 24/7.
