Philadelphia Inquirer Series
Michael Vitez
Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Michael Vitez was a staff writer for The Philadelphia Inquirer for many years. For about 18 months, he was granted access to report from inside Abington Memorial Hospital.
His goal was to write stories that showed how one hospital dealt with the biggest issues in health care today and also the changes that were coming fast and furious with Healthcare Reform.
His first story looked at palliative care, showing up close, how the team works, the agony that families feel, and the costs involved. Michael's second story focused on Abington's handwashing campaign and its efforts to bring down infection rates.
Michael's articles are listed on the left. We hope you enjoy them.
