Jefferson Lansdale Hospital Appoints Medical Director for Geriatrics
LANSDALE, PA (October 26, 2021) -- Jefferson Lansdale Hospital has appointed Nataliya Dementovych, MD as medical director for Geriatrics, as the hospital pursues Age-Friendly status.
Age-Friendly Health Systems is an initiative of the John A. Hartford Foundation and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement in partnership with the American Hospital Association and the Catholic Health Association of the United States. Age-Friendly Health Systems and facilities aim to follow an essential set of evidence-based practices and align with what matters to older adult patients and their family caregivers.
As medical director of Jefferson Lansdale Hospital’s Age-Friendly Program, Dementovych will participate in the development of specific geriatric care protocols, guidelines and plans, and conduct weekly interdisciplinary team rounds on all inpatients ages 65+ admitted to the hospital, who may benefit from specialized geriatric care. She will identify and review metrics for the Age-Friendly Program and work to identify quality and process improvement opportunities for our elderly patients. Age-Friendly care is the reliable implementation of a set of evidenced-based geriatric practices and interventions across four elements: What Matters, Mentation, Medication and Mobility.
Dementovych joined Jefferson Health – Abington in 2008 as an intern in the Internal Medicine Department and then completed a residency in Internal Medicine. She continued her training with a fellowship in Geriatric Medicine which she completed in 2012. Dementovych is board certified in Internal Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, Post-Acute and Long-term Care Medicine. While she is skilled in treating a variety of patients, she has a special interest and training in caring for the elderly.
She previously served as the medical director of the Geriatric Assessment Center at Jefferson Health – Abington, a role she held for nine years. Additionally, she served as the medical director of Foulkways, a continuing care community in Gwynedd, PA and Artman Lutheran Home in Ambler, PA. Dementovych has researched and presented work on topics such as, but not limited to: the challenges of diagnosis, treating and distinguishing between illnesses in elderly patients, dementia, delirium, older adults with disabilities and obstructive sleep apnea. She is fluent in Ukrainian and Russian.
“Dr. Dementovych is a great fit for this role with her extensive experience caring for older patients and her vast knowledge about the unique needs of this population,” says Katie Farrell, chief administrative officer, Jefferson Lansdale Hospital. “Lansdale Hospital has served a high proportion of seniors and is proactively dedicating its resources to be a leader in geriatric healthcare. I am confident that Dr. Dementovych will do a fantastic job directing our Age Friendly Program and enhancing care for our patients. I very am excited to welcome her into this new role.”
