G. Michael Lemole, Jr., MD, FACS, Nationally Recognized Neurosurgeon, Joins Medical Staff of Abington – Jefferson Health
ABINGTON, PA (July 20, 2020) – Abington – Jefferson Health is pleased to welcome G. Michael Lemole, Jr., MD, FACS, a nationally recognized leader in the field of neuro-oncology and skull based surgery, to the medical staff of Abington Hospital – Jefferson Health. In his new role, he will serve as director of the Vickie and Jack Farber Institute for Neuroscience at Abington – Jefferson Health. Additionally, he will assume the role of professor and vice chair, Department of Neurological Surgery for Thomas Jefferson University.
Board certified in neurological surgery, Lemole brings nearly 20 years of neurosurgical experience to Abington – Jefferson Health. Before accepting his new role, he served as chair of the Department of Neurosurgery, professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Arizona College of Medicine and the elected chief of staff for the University of Arizona’s Medical Campus.

Lemole earned his undergraduate degree from Harvard University and medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He completed his neurosurgery residency at Barrow Neurological Institute, St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ, where he completed enfolded fellowships in complex spinal surgery and cerebrovascular/skull based surgery. Lemole then pursued international training in Austria after being awarded the Congress of Neurological Surgeons Cushing Clinical Fellowship.
Throughout his career, Lemole has earned numerous awards, including America’s Top Surgeons honor from Consumers’ Research Council of America, Congressional Citation from the Friends of the National Library of Medicine (for services to Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords), Best Doctors in America, Physician of the Year and UMC Trauma Team Merit Award.
Lemole has presented at many national and international meetings and has been published widely about his work in neurosurgery. Presently, Lemole is a member of the Society of Neurological Neurosurgeons (Senior Society).
Lemole resides in Lower Gwynedd, PA with his wife and children.
