Alison Ferren Named President and Chief Operating Officer for Abington – Jefferson Health
ABINGTON, PA (November 18, 2020)--Alison Ferren, MBA, has been named President and Chief Operating Officer of Abington - Jefferson Health after serving as Interim President and Chief Operating Officer since July 1 of this year.
“I am excited to lead our organization through these challenging times and focus our efforts on growth strategies designed to advance Abington - Jefferson Health’s position as the preferred healthcare provider in the region,” said Ferren. “My dedication and commitment are to our community which has come to rely on us for their health care, as well as our employees and physicians who provide the highest quality, compassionate care. I am delighted to serve in this role at the very place where I began my career.”
Ferren began her career at Abington Memorial Hospital in 1987 when she joined the Information Technology Department. In just eight years, she was promoted to Chief Information Officer. Under her leadership as CIO, Abington Health was transformed into one of the most technologically advanced health systems in the country, recognized as one of the nation’s Most Wired hospitals for five consecutive years. Additionally, in 2013, she became responsible for the Performance Excellence Department, where she supported large-scale improvement projects, collaborating with clinicians and other leaders to incorporate proactive and innovative solutions to address business challenges and achieve results.
When Abington Health and Jefferson merged to form Jefferson Health in 2015, Ferren was appointed Senior Vice President, Integration & Performance Improvement, to lead Jefferson’s merger integration planning and execution, performance improvement, and operational excellence in Center City Philadelphia.
In November 2019, Ferren returned to Abington - Jefferson Health to serve as Chief Operating Officer and Senior Operational Leader for the implementation of a new electronic medical record system for the Abington and Jefferson Northeast hospitals.

Ferren’s contributions to the business community are many. She has served as a member on the HealthShare Exchange of Southeastern Pennsylvania Technical Standards committee. She has volunteered as a national examiner for the Malcolm Baldrige Performance Excellence Program and is a Baldrige Executive Fellow.
Ferren serves on the board of the New Britain Surgical Center, the Abington PET/CT Center of Willow Grove, the Abington Surgical Center and the Pain and Surgical Center of Langhorne. Additionally, she has volunteered at the June Fete, the long-standing fundraiser of the Abington Women’s Board, for more than two decades.
Ferren has made presentations across the country about computerized physician order entry and the Baldridge Framework for Excellence. She is a graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson University with a BS in Business Administration and MBA from Temple University, which she earned in 1996.
