Chief Administrative Officer of Abington – Lansdale Hospital Named Superhero by North Penn United Way
Gary Candia, PhD honored at Superheroes United for Kids fundraiser on April 21, 2017
ABINGTON, PA (April 21, 2017) – Gary Candia, PhD, chief administrative officer of Abington—Lansdale Hospital, was honored as a North Penn United Way “Superhero” at the organization’s Superheroes Unite Gala on April 21, 2017 at Pinecrest Country Club. Dr. Candia was among 10 superheroes honored during the evening for their commitment to bettering lives and taking action to improve the North Penn and Indian Valley communities.
Candia serves on the boards of Manna on Main Street, the North Penn United Way and the Penn Suburban Chamber of Commerce. He is an advocate for these organizations, as well as for Abington—Jefferson Health.
“I accepted this award with my understanding of what constitutes a “superhero,” and it is those who provide essential services to the community day in and day out,” Candia said. "It is the Abington—Lansdale Hospital staff and employees, with whom I have the privilege to work every day, who truly deserve the recognition—who know that service is simple, it’s just not easy. My thanks to all of you who care for many individual patients, register dozens of patients or in numerous ways care for and support our patients.”
Candia added that the commitment and dedication of Abington—Lansdale Hospital employees is one reason the hospital is the proud recipient of two prestigious awards: The 2017 Healthgrades Outstanding Patient Experience Award and the Leapfrog Quality and Safety Excellence Award.
The annual Unite Gala raises funds and resources to support United Way’s three community goals: help children succeed, help older adults stay strong and active in the community for as long as possible, and provide safety net services to community members in their time of need.
