ABINGTON, PA (October 23, 2013)—Abington Memorial Hospital’s Safe Harbor Program recently received a $10,000 grant from the David B. Weiss Memorial Foundation.

Safe Harbor provides ongoing support, in a safe place, so that children and teens grieving the death of a loved one can share their experience as they move through the healing process. The program also provides parents with the necessary tools to understand and assist their grieving children and teens while supporting their own grief through a parent/caregiver support group.

“We feel very fortunate that Safe Harbor was selected as the recipient of this grant,” says Debbie Teasdale, program director, Safe Harbor. “I am grateful for the support of the David B. Weiss Memorial Foundation and its mission to help those in need.”

Following his untimely death, David B. Weiss’ friends and family members created the foundation to celebrate his life, loves, joys and passions. In honor of David’s spirit, the foundation raises funds and supports various causes throughout the community. David’s wife Jill, who is also a board member, participated in Safe Harbor programs with her four sons.

“The Foundation is making the donation to celebrate the life of David by helping Safe Harbor make a difference in the lives of so many families facing the same challenges as David’s family,” said Dave Newman, board member, David B. Weiss Foundation.
