Abington Health Volunteer Honored with Heart of Hospice Award by the PA Hospice Network
ABINGTON, PA (May 21, 2013) – Jack Brand, a long-time volunteer at Abington Health – Home Care and Hospice, was recently awarded the Heart of Hospice Award by the Pennsylvania Hospice Network. The award recognizes an individual volunteer who demonstrates exemplary generosity and spirit towards the hospice community and was presented at their annual conference in Harrisburg, PA, on April 8, 2013.
“Jack is one of the most compassionate and caring individuals I’ve had the privilege of knowing,” says Nancy S. Leporace, manager, Home Care and Hospice Volunteer Services. “He truly exemplifies what it means to be a hospice volunteer.”
Brand has been an Abington Health – Home Care and Hospice volunteer for over 20 years and has accumulated over 6,000 hours of community service. He is always available to be at the bedside of a dying patient or to grieve with and support family members. Brand is a decorated Army Air Corps veteran and participates in the “We Honor Veterans” program.
Brand serves as the cornerstone of the Home Care and Hospice volunteer program, which is supported by over 200 volunteers and continues to grow.
