Dried Fruit Compote

16 servings


3/4 lb pitted prunes
1/2 lb dried peaches, apples, mangos or pears, or a combination
1/2 cup raisins, dried cranberries or dried cherries
1 lemon, quartered
1/2 cup sugar
1 whole clove
1 cinnamon stick
6 cups water 


  1. In a large saucepan, combine all ingredients with 6 cups of water. Bring to a simmer over medium heat. Cover the pan, reduce heat to low and simmer until tender, 30 to 45 minutes. Stir frequently to prevent burning.
  2. Remove the lemons, clove and cinnamon stick before serving warm or chilled.
