MAT Training for Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers
Training on medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is required to obtain a waiver from the Drug Enforcement Agency to prescribe buprenorphine, one of three medications approved by the FDA for the treatment of opioid use disorder. Providers Clinical Support System offers free waiver training for physicians and advanced practice providers to prescribe medication for the treatment of opioid use disorder.
For Physicians
Eight hours training on medication-assisted treatment. Trainings are open to all practicing physicians. Residents may take the course and apply for their waiver when they receive their DEA license.
- Option 1 – Live 8-hour training session
- Option 2 – Hybrid format – 3.75 hours online and 4.25 hours of face-to-face training

For Advanced Practice Providers
24 hours of specialized training on medication-assisted treatment. The training includes 8 hours of MAT waiver training and an additional 16 hours of required training.
