Weekend night service coverage will be assigned ectopically to an upper year resident on an outpatient rotation. Service coverage is from 5 pm to 7 am daily Saturday and Sunday night. The weekend will begin with Saturday morning office hours, then administrative time in the afternoon until starting service coverage at 5 p.m.

Family Medicine Service call duties mainly involve hospital admissions.  When the ETC notifies the on call resident of a patient to be admitted, the resident will see and evaluate the patient, formulate a treatment plan and discuss the plan with the on call Family Medicine attending physician and the ETC physician. Family Medicine Service call may be taken in-house or the resident must be no more than 20 minutes from the hospital.

FMS call duties also involve taking phone calls from residential facilities and our practice’s patients. Phone calls are handled through an answering service and are directed to the resident’s pager. Phone calls are expected to be handled in a timely manner and documented appropriately.
