Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity Statement
The Department of Surgery at Abington-Jefferson Health stands in solidarity with all academic and physician training communities condemning racism and discrimination in any form whether it is personal or systemic. The Abington-Jefferson Health Department of Surgery will aspire to ensure the development of culturally competent and diverse faculty and create a more just and inclusive environment for all resident trainees, medical students, and practicing physicians within the department. We will role model and provide leadership to remove structural racism and eliminate all forms of discrimination, including but not limited to race, color, national origin, age, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, disability, religion, or weight from our daily interactions. We will arduously strive to eliminate unacceptable inequities that pervade healthcare and strive to address inequities that prevent vulnerable underrepresented minority communities from receiving acceptable high-quality care that every American deserves.
The Abington-Jefferson Health General Surgery Residency Program is committed to recruit and retain excellent individuals with a variety of backgrounds and life experiences to achieve an optimal level of innovation in teaching, research, and caring for patients. We will endeavor to create an educational environment in which differences are embraced and supported so that all individuals have an equal opportunity for success.
