Salary and Benefits
for 2022 – 2023













Life Insurance

All residents are covered by a basic life insurance policy according to the following schedule:


PGY-1 to PGY-7


Limited supplemental life insurance may be purchased for yourself, your spouse, same sex domestic partner, or your children who are under age 19 (23 if full time students).

Health/Dental Insurance*

We offer a flexible benefit program that allows you to tailor your benefit package to meet your individual needs. This covers both medical and dental insurances. Plans have a small fee attached based on your selection. Flexible spending accounts are available through Discovery Benefits.

Professional Liability

All residents and fellows are covered by the Cassatt RRG, Inc. The hospital purchases continuous coverage for all events that occur during a resident or fellow's tenure at this institution. Coverage for moonlighting activities must be cleared with the respective program director and hospital administration.

Long-Term Disability

Each resident and fellow is issued an individual disability insurance policy, which will pay for 60 percent of the base salary, subject to a maximum schedule amount of $3,000 per month, and will continue coverage for two (2) years. This policy is transferable upon completion of residency training.

403B Tax-Sheltered Annuity

You may participate in a savings plan with Wells Fargo that permits you to make a tax-deferred investment of up to a certain dollar amount determined by the tax laws in effect for the current year. Federal Income tax is deferred until money is withdrawn.

Additional Benefits

Relocation costs: The hospital will pay reasonable relocation costs (an average of $500 for a move within the immediate area, up to $1,000 for an out-of-state move).

Loans: The hospital will provide zero-interest loans up to $2,000 at the start of the residency or fellowship program (payments are spread over 12 months).

Meals: On-call meals are paid for by separate stipend twice a year. This covers dinner, midnight snack and breakfast when on-call. There is a 7% discount in the cafeteria available to all employees provided you sign-up.

Uniforms/lab coats: At least three lab coats are provided for first-year residents, and laundry of uniforms is provided for all residents and fellows without charge. Two additional lab coats are provided to fourth through fifth year residents and fellows. Scrubs are distributed by departmental policy.

Electronic Handheld Device: Residents and fellows are provided with a reimbursement stipend when the following criteria are met:

  • Purchase of a cell Phone, laptops, or tablet
  • Must be purchased no later than 6 months before the end of your program
  • Must submit proof of payment* and reimbursement form to GME within one month of purchase date (*proof of payment MUST show your name)
  • Reimbursement Limit: $375 Max

Leave of absence: Each resident and fellow is eligible for at least six (6) weeks of medical, parental or caregiver leave for qualifying reasons that are consistent with applicable laws per each term. Refer to resident agreement p.10, section 8.12.

Vacation time: Each resident and fellow is entitled to fifteen (15) days of paid time off (PTO). Residents and fellows must follow individual program policy for requested time off.  PTO days not taken in any contract year may not be carried forward and taken in another contract year.

Conferences: Each residency and fellowship program has funding arrangements to attend conferences outside of the hospital. Funds are distributed by departmental policy.

USMLE Step 3 and COMLEX Level 3: First-year residents will be reimbursed for taking USMLE-Step 3 or COMLEX Level 3 when the following criteria is met:

  • Take this test during your PGY 1 year
  • Submit your Proof of Payment* and Score report via electronic upload in New Innovations (Ni) by March 31st of your PGY 1 year (*Proof of Payment MUST show your name)

Licensure: JAH will cover the cost for an Unrestricted License and/or a DEA License when the following criteria are met:

  • Resident/Fellow must submit copy of license and proof of payment* within one month of issuance of license (*proof of payment MUST show your name)
  • Reimbursement = 100% if obtained 6 months prior to graduation, any time later is prorated to time left in the program (the prorated formula will be based on the date you became eligible for your license)
  • GME will reimburse: cost of application, test scores sent, self query

Counseling: All residents and fellows have access to an on-campus GME Wellness Officer, Physicians and advanced practice professionals through the Medical Education Committee, Health Assistance Committee, or Carebridge (Employee Assistance), a free work/life benefit is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year with a wide variety of resources and referral services. Additional hospital resources include:  Proactive Support Team, RISE, and Pastoral Care.

Wellness: Each training program has a wellness program. In addition the GME office sponsors funding at $125/resident or fellow for approved use annually. Funds are distributed by departmental policy.

Daycare: JAH has opened the Gerstadt Childcare and Educational Center, offering discounted childcare to JAH employees. It is located directly across the street from the Emergency Department.

Fitness Center: On-site fitness center. No membership fee for residents and fellows.

Parking: Convenient on-site parking is available for all residents at a charge of $16/month.

VISA sponsorship: The hospital sponsors H-1B and J-1 visas. Contact individual training program for specific information.

Notary public: On-site services are free of charge.

Medical library / resource center: Computer access available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Instructions available upon request.

Employee discounts at local businesses: Cellular telephones, restaurants, automotive services, dry cleaning services, grocery service, amusement parks, etc.

ATM: Two machines on campus
