Jessica Cheung, MD was born in Hong Kong. She earned her B.S. in Biology at the University of Oregon and attended medical school at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Some of her favorite pastimes in hula hooping tricks, rocking climbing and gardening.
Mahsa Hamedi, MD was born in Tehran, Iran. She earned her B.S. in Biochemistry from the Georgia Institute of Technology, Biochemistry and attended medical school at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. Some of her favorite pastimes include skiing, snowmobiling, water sports and hiking. She also loves cooking, gardening and traveling.
Kacey Hamilton, MD was born and raised in a small rural community in eastern Illinois. Kacey’s family owns and operates a grain and livestock farm and has done so for many generations. As a teenager, she spent many sleepless nights delivering Piglets on the farm – Kacey said, “It’s no surprise I ended up in OB/GYN!” Kacey attended undergraduate and Medical School at Southern Illinois University. Kacey said, “I came to Abington for Residency to train in an environment that was supportive of family planning and clearly had a passion for offering the full breadth of reproductive healthcare to the patients at the OB/GYN Center”. Kacey is applying for Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery. She hopes to return to the rural Midwest once her training is complete to expand access to care and to train future OB/GYNs. When not in the hospital, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends. Kacey and her husband have two fur-babies, Kona and Hilo who they enjoy taking on hikes along the Wissahickon. Kacey is an avid gardener who also loves traveling, cooking, and exploring the Philly food scene.
Tanvi Joshi, MD was born in Thane, India. She earned her B.S. in Biology from The Ohio State University and attended medical school at the Ohio State University College of Medicine. Tanvi enjoys tennis, and in high school, she played as #1 doubles and was affectionately known as the “Tanvinator”. Some of her hobbies include rollerblading and glass painting, with a preference for scenic landscapes inspired by real life imagery.
Keely Robinson, MD was born in Ohio, grew up in the South, and is now proud to be a Pennsylvanian. After meeting all the residents at Abington she said, “I knew it was my first choice and I'd choose it first all over again!” She earned her B.S. in Cell and Molecular Biology and Chemistry from West Chester University of Pennsylvania and attended medical school at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences College of Medicine. Her professional passion is Maternal Fetal Medicine and she believes there is nothing more rewarding than helping moms with high-risk medical conditions have a healthy pregnancy and baby. In her free time you can find her enjoying the outdoors with her husband, son, and 2 dogs. Some of her favorite pastimes include international travel, running, yoga, and cooking.
Lauren Burton, MD was born in Hartford, Connecticut. She earned her B.A. in Biology, Studio Art and Art History from Colgate University and attended medical school at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University. Her passions include oil painting, Yuoga, baking and developing new recipes and traveling. Lauren is also a thrill seeker. She loves bungee jumping, skydiving and scuba diving.
Angela Carracino, DO was born in Monmouth Beach, New Jersey. She earned her B.S. in Neuroscience with a minor in Exercise Physiology and Chemistry from the University of Miami and attended medical school at the Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine. Her favorite pastimes include mastering the Philly food scene, reading, exercising, cooking and baking, happy hour, and promoting New Jersey as the best state.
Dorothea Letner, MD was born in Natick, Massachusetts. She earned her B.S. in Biology with a minor in Neuroscience from Haverford College and attended medical school at Albany Medical College. In her spare time, Dorothea loves to be outside as much as she possibly can. She and her husband were both competitive athletes in college and love to be active on the weekends. They have really enjoyed taking advantage of Philadelphia’s extensive trail systems since moving here for residency. They also love to be active when traveling because it allows them to enjoy their other favorite pastime, food. Their favorite way to learn about a new place is through food, and they love to experiment with recipes they have learned about on their travels in their own kitchen.
Alisha Sangal, MD was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio. She completed her undergraduate degree in Honors Biology at the University of Toledo and matriculated into The University of Toledo College of Medicine through the 7-year Bacc/MD Program. As a lifetime Ohioan, she was thrilled to embark on a new adventure in PA and to be a part of the Abington family. Dr. Sangal's hobbies include baking, gardening, and everything Bollywood and Hollywood. She has been practicing Bollywood dance from a young age. Her professional interests lie in reducing healthcare disparities among underserved populations on a national and global scale. She has participated in numerous medical mission trips, especially in Latin America, to provide medical care to underserved populations. Dr. Sangal will be pursuing a career in General Obstetrics and Gynecology. She hopes to continue medical mission trips as a generalist.
Madeline Smith, MD was born and raised in the Philadelphia suburbs. Madeline graduated from Georgetown University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology of Global Health and a minor in Economics. She then went on to earn her medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta. Her love for obstetrics and gynecology comes from her passion for reproductive choice and the combination of medicine and surgery within the specialty. Moreover, delivering babies is not so bad either! In her spare time, Madeline enjoys running, reading, hiking and doing jigsaw puzzles.
Orchid Abar, MD was born in Millburn, New Jersey where she solidified her interest in medicine as an EMT at her volunteer first aid squad. She went on to study Biology and Public Health at Washington University in St. Louis. She discovered her passion for all the Philadelphia area has to offer when she attended medical school at Drexel University College of Medicine. At Drexel, Orchid joined a rock band to raise money for AID’s research, enjoyed leading the American Medical Women's Association, and spent her free time exploring the many vibrant local breweries of Philadelphia. Orchid was elated to match at Abington - Jefferson Health, where she could continue to live in her favorite city and serve a diverse patient population. Dr. Abar chose Abington for its unparalleled OB/GYN training from outstanding faculty, exceptional facilities for resident training including multiple simulation rooms, and the department's unswerving commitment to evidence-based and compassionate care. In her free time, Orchid loves spending happy hours with her co-residents, shopping at boutiques in Center City, relaxing at the Jersey Shore and visiting her friends in nearby cities such as New York.
Mackenzie Cummings, MD was born in Cicero, New York. She received her B.S. in Biochemistry with a Psychiatry minor from the State University of New York at New Paltz. Mackenzie earned her medical agree from the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine. Some of her favorite pastimes are long distance running, hiking, figure skating, and snowmobiling and boating with her family in upstate NY. She enjoys reading, especially thrillers and historical fiction, bingeing Netflix, exploring local businesses including restaurants and breweries, and love dogs.
Evan Fitzgerald, MD was born in Jacksonville, Florida and grew up moving around the country in a Navy family. He received his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Florida State University in Tallahassee, FL and then attended medical school at Florida State University, spending his clinical years in Orlando, FL. Dr. Fitzgerald has a passion for obstetrical care and surgical cases. He is excited to work as a generalist and build relationships with patients, and to be involved in medical education. His favorite things include cooking, exercise, working out, traveling, outdoors/hiking, snowboarding, dogs, microbreweries, and food trucks. He and his wife welcomed a baby girl prior to starting residency and his baby boy was born at Abington during his intern year.
Sarah Gleberman, MD was born in Tokyo but sadly moved to New York City before she was old enough to have learned any Japanese. She attended college at Stanford University, where she studied Human Biology with a minor in Science Communication. Sarah spent a year working at a federally qualified health center in Silicon Valley before moving back to the East Coast to attend Cooper Medical School of Rowan University in Camden, NJ. Her Ob/Gyn interests include family planning, women’s health education, and reproductive rights advocacy. When she is not answering her pager or draining Bartholin’s gland abscesses, she enjoys yoga, HGTV, and the New York Times crossword.
Kara Kolar, MD grew up in the Philadelphia area and attended Penn State University where she studied Biology and minored in Spanish. She then moved to Philly where she earned her medical degree from the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University and discovered her interest in women's health. She is excited about the opportunity to grow with her patients and care for women in all stages of life as a future generalist. Until then, she is relishing in the joy of bringing little babies into the world. When she is not in the hospital, she can be found in her kitchen trying out a new recipe, deep in competition over a game night with friends, enjoying the outdoors, or spending time with family.
Amal Amir, DO was born in Atlantic City, NJ and grew up in central Jersey (yes, it is a real place). She earned her B.A. in Finance from Rutgers University and attended medical school at Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine. When she gets the chance, she spends most of her free time with family and friends. Amal loves to travel and experience culture through meeting people and indulging in ethnic cuisines. She enjoys doing activities outdoors, especially if it involves swimming. Amal's other hobbies include cooking and eating, being a part-time bridesmaid, and dancing (especially to some reggaetón).
Amanda Kadesh, MD grew up outside of New York City and attended Fordham University for her undergraduate education where she studied Psychology. She then completed a Masters of Science in Neuroscience and Education at Columbia University Teacher's College. Dr. Kadesh worked in Oncology Clinical Trials at Weill Cornell Medicine for three years prior to attending medical school at New York Medical College. Her medical interests include patient advocacy, reproductive endocrinology, and healthcare pricing transparency. In her time outside of the hospital, she enjoys trying new foods, spending time outdoors, and browsing the latest home decor trends.
Mariah Elly, MD was born in Pennsylvania and grew up in Virginia, Maryland, and California. After earning her B.A. in Biology from the University of Virginia, she worked as a medical scribe in the UVA Emergency Department, where she discovered her passion for medicine. She went on to earn a Master's degree in Biomedical Sciences from Drexel University and loved the Philadelphia area so much that she stayed at the Drexel University College of Medicine for her medical degree. She is passionate about many topics in OB/GYN and is considering fellowship. In her free time, she enjoys being active through hiking and playing tennis, as well as exploring the Philly food scene, keeping her houseplants alive, and traveling to see her family in Hawaii, Lake Tahoe, Virginia, and Florida.
Connie Liao, MD was born in Philadelphia, PA and earned her BA in biology from the University of Pennsylvania. She went on to conduct cancer research at the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center before moving to Washington, DC where she earned her medical degree from Howard University College of Medicine. In her free time she loves trying new restaurants, collecting vinyls, finding the best bubble tea in town, and thrift shopping.
Sage Mikami, MD was born and raised in Newmarket, New Hampshire. She went to Bowdoin College where she majored in Biochemistry and minored in Dance. She worked as a lab technician at the Ragon Institute in Boston studying HIV vaccines before attending medical school at the University of Rochester. In medical school, Dr. Mikami was a leader of Medical Students for Choice and worked on an initiative to bring contraceptive healthcare to a local syringe exchange. Dr. Mikami was drawn to Abington for residency because of the excellent training in family planning, high volume, diverse patient population, and especially because of the supportive and collegial work environment. Dr. Mikami did competitive gymnastics for 10 years before transitioning to springboard diving in college. These days, she likes to keep active by practicing yoga, rock climbing, and occasional trips to the trampoline park with lots of ibuprofen on hand. She lives in Center City, and is enjoying exploring Philadelphia with her partner and awesome co-residents!
Olivia Nicolais-Julian, MD was born in Dallas, Texas where she grew up figure skating, playing volleyball and pole vaulting. She moved to the Northeast for college where she attended the University of Pennsylvania majoring in Art History. She decided in her sophomore year that she missed her biology classes and decided to complete her pre-med track. After shadowing an OBGYN that summer, she knew that it was the path for her. She then worked for two years at the University of Pennsylvania as a clinical research coordinator working on studies for ectopic pregnancy, uterine fibroids and endometriosis. She attended medical school at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University in Camden, New Jersey where she met her husband who is now a resident in Internal Medicine. She lives in Center City, Philadelphia and has a rat terrier named Mister. She enjoys spending time drawing and painting, going on runs, and visiting her family who has now moved to Southern California.
