Abington Department of Medicine Teaching Affiliation
Jefferson Abington Hospital (JAH) is a major clinical campus for the Drexel University College of Medicine and Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. A teaching atmosphere is present throughout the medical service, which incorporates second, third, and fourth year medical students. Abington offers medical students a clinical experience to broaden their urban/city exposure. The department hosts third- and fourth-year medical students for both the internal medicine clerkship and subspecialty four-year elective. Approximately 10 percent of PCOM students and 15 percent of Drexel fourth-year students rotate through the department of medicine at AH.
Physician Assistant students are also assigned to the general medicine service at Abington. Students receive instruction in physical diagnosis, general medicine, subspecialty electives and sub-internships. The student's presence fosters an inquiring and scholarly approach for both housestaff and faculty.
