Mr. And Mrs. Bauer

Here we are at a special
retirement party for Carl
and Dr. Sillars in 1983.
We had a wonderful
time celebrating with
dear friends from the
hospital.

My husband, Carl, worked at Abington Memorial Hospital from 1956 to 1983, starting at the bottom of the ladder right out of school and working his way up to the position of head technologist, then manager of Radiology. He founded the AMH School of Radiologic Technology in his early days at AMH.

First Radiologic Tech Classroom

Carl founded the hospital’s School of Radiologic
Technology in the 1950s. Here is the very first
classroom. It was in an old elevator room.

Carl worked closely with Charles H. Sillars, M.D., who was the head of the Department of Radiology at that time. I also worked in Radiology for a while as a part-time receptionist and file clerk. We had a wonderful life together, and Carl loved working at the hospital.

Last year, I visited AMH for the first time in many years. I was amazed to see the facilities. Carl and Dr. Sillars would have been speechless to see Abington Memorial Hospital today.

Bauer Promotion in Stetho Scoop

Carl was promoted to Manager of Radiology in 1973. The announcement from the hospital’s Abington News is among the mementos saved in a treasured family scrapbook.
