My AMH Story Masthead

Barbara Castelberg

Employee and Visitor/Family Member of Patient

My mother in law Ruth Castelberg passed away today at the 2 floor of the Widener building. She was a 84 year old matriarch of the family, she had 2 sons and 2 daughters. She had Stage 4 cancer. Dr. Edelson was so kind to her and explained in plain speak that she needed to be admitted to the ER for abdominal pain and a workup on Wednesday. Today I went to see her at about 9:30 am and she had become very sick quickly. Dr. Shahin and Dr. Faris were there to console, give orders and help. The nurse Kelly was as kind and professional as any nurse could be. They put Mom in a larger room so the family could gather, and helped her to be pain free until her passing. They also had a heart string ceremony to say good by to all her children and grandchildren, this was so moving and well done I had to make the comment that although I also work at AMH and have for many years I was humbled and proud of this hospital. The extra time, kindness and love I experienced from this wonderful group of people made me so proud. I am writing this in hopes that these people will realize how profoundly wonderful they were to my family in this very difficult time. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
