What to Pack

The following items are suggestions to bring with you to the hospital to use during your labor, as well as items that you will need after your baby is born.

Labor Goody Bag

  • Identification, insurance card and prescription card
  • Chapstick/lipstick
  • Mouthwash, toothbrush, toothpaste
  • Contact lens solution and case/eyeglasses
  • Hair accessories
  • Back massage items, lotions/oils (scented if you prefer)
  • Hand mirror to view pushing in labor room
  • Robe, warm socks, slippers for walking
  • Extra pillows with colored pillow cases, colored wash cloths
  • Focal point
  • Camera and/or video recorder with extra battery and/or charger
  • Favorite music with portable player
  • Games, magazines, book, paper and pen/pencil
  • Sour candy, nutritious snack(s) for partner, change for vending machine
  • List of phones numbers of people to notify after the birth

Postpartum Suitcase for Mom

  • Cosmetics, toiletries and hair products
  • Two or three nightgowns and a robe and slippers
  • Two to three nursing bras
  • Going home outfit for mom (early pregnancy size) and shoes

Items for baby

 For Hospital:

  • Going home outfit for baby
  • Car seat

At home:

  • Have a supply of diapers and formula (if you not breastfeeding)
  • Baby clothes
