Nephrology

All forms of kidney disease, including urinary tract infection, the various forms of nephritis, and the medical aspects of kidney stones, are treated by physicians in this specialty. Hypertension (high blood pressure), especially those forms associated with kidney disease, are also treated by nephrologists. For patients who have developed kidney failure, either sudden (acute) or irreversible (chronic) renal failure, the hospital provides various forms of dialysis, including hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. Abington's nephrologists also use a procedure called hemoperfusion in the treatment of some forms of drug intoxication.
