X-Ray Services

Most people are familiar with x-rays. Detailed images of the muscles, bones, joints, and organs are created when a small amount of radiation passes through the body to expose sensitive film on the other side.

Patients stand next to a digital imaging board or lie on a table, depending on the part of the body being studied. The images take just seconds to produce (you may be asked to hold your breath and lie still). The tests are painless.

X-rays penetrate the composition and mass of the tissues and bones to construct the image. Your technologist will make sure the image is clear before you leave.

A board-certified Abington radiologist will interpret your x-rays, and then share the results with your physician. Your doctor may want to review the actual images as well. Through our picture archiving system (PACS), the results can be shared electronically and confidentially between Abington Health radiologists and your referring physician.

X-rays represent the first option for diagnosis of many conditions, including:

  • Bone fractures
  • Chest and lung health (especially before surgery)
  • Knee or joint pain
  • Shoulder pain/dislocation
  • and much more

You do not need an appointment for an x-ray at many of our locations, but you will need a referral from your physician. For more information, please call  215-481-EXAM (3926)

Comprehensive radiology/imaging services, including digital mammography, are available at the Abington Health Center – Warminster Campus.

X-ray facilities are located at the Levy Medical Plaza, 1235 Old York Road.
