Personal Touches

Patients and families may personalize their rooms with meaningful items, photos and music selections from home. Each patient is given an afghan, a special pillow case and a lovely, decorative heart, all of which are hand-made by our volunteers. These items are given to family members to hold dear as a lasting memento.

The Support and Care You Desire

Our team of specially trained professionals and volunteers focuses on our patients and families, and works hard to enhance the quality of their last days. Attending physicians, patients and family members join with the hospice staff to develop a plan of care to meet each patient's needs and wishes. They provide social, emotional and spiritual support, relieving symptoms and keeping patients as pain free as possible with loved ones surrounding them.

Team members include the medical director, nurses, social workers, volunteers, chaplains and personal care technicians.

A broad array of counseling and bereavement services are available to families, including special programs for children.

Defining Hospice Care

Abington Memorial Hospital has been a leading area provider of comprehensive hospice services since 1987. Hospice is a philosophy of care that recognizes and understands the end of life journey and focuses on the person rather than the disease, emphasizing quality rather than length of life. We provide family-centered care involving the patient and loved ones in decision-making.

Abington Hospice at Warminster offers the following levels of care:

General inpatient level of care – Acute short-term care, which requires ongoing monitoring by a registered nurse for acute symptom management.

Routine hospice – Patients symptoms that require intermittent monitoring are managed by a nurse. This care may be provided in our facility when the personal care needs become difficult to manage at home.

Respite care – This option is provided to address caregiver fatigue. Ideal for caregivers of at-home hospice patients, the patient may stay in our facility for up to five days.

Admission Information

  • Admission to Abington Hospice at Warminster for acute inpatient care is based on criteria set by insurance guidelines for short-term management of acute symptoms.
