Vascular Bypass Surgery
Blockage in the arteries may be too severe for minimally invasive treatment such as angioplasty. Expert surgeons at Abington Health’s Blank Vascular Center may restore blood flow through open vascular bypass surgery.
Types of Vascular Bypass
Created from a vein or synthetic tube (graft), a vascular bypass reroutes blood from above a blockage in an artery to below it.
Our surgeons are highly experienced in vascular bypass surgeries.
They conduct aorto-bifemoral bypass, rerouting blood from the abdominal aorta to the thigh (femoral) arteries. They also perform femoral popliteal and femoral tibial bypasses, rerouting femoral artery blood to the knee area (popliteal) and lower leg (tibial) artery.
