Diagnosis & Treatment – CHF Program
Heart failure may arise from various heart conditions. At Abington – Jefferson Health’s Comprehensive Heart Failure Program, our sophisticated diagnostic testing and specialist expertise enables you to receive the best treatment for your situation.
Congestive Heart Failure Diagnosis
We have the most up-to-date diagnostic technology for determining the severity of congestive heart failure and identifying treatment options.
Among our capabilities: six cardiac catheterization laboratories (two dedicated to electrophysiology) for precise diagnosis and minimally invasive procedures; cardiopulmonary stress tests, to locate the source of symptoms; and non-invasive impedance cardiography, to measure how well the heart pumps blood.
Treatments for Heart Failure
Our specialists customize treatment for you, using the newest innovative and effective methods. Heart failure therapies include: lifestyle changes and medications; cardiac pacemakers and defibrillators; ventricular assist devices (VAD or LVAD) for when other approaches have been insufficient; and aquapheresis ultrafiltration, to remove salt and water that may build up from heart failure.
In the Philadelphia region, our heart failure program also pioneered cardiac resynchronization therapy, to optimize heart ventricle beating after pacemaker implantation.
The program’s inpatient heart failure unit features highly trained staff, advanced monitoring and education for recovery.
Outpatient and Home Care
Our specialists provide on-going management of heart failure care to improve heart function, avoid hospitalizations and gain a healthier life. Home care may include remote monitoring, visits from registered nurses with heart failure training, infusion and rehabilitative therapies, and other health support services.
