Colon & Rectal Cancer
We provide outstanding, comprehensive care for colon cancer, rectal cancer or anal cancer.
Our team uses the latest technology to diagnose and treat colorectal cancer. These highly experienced specialists include medical oncologists, colorectal surgeons, surgical oncologists, radiation oncologists and interventional radiologists.
Honored for Cancer Expertise
The Commission on Cancer, American College of Surgeons, gave us its 2012 Outstanding Achievement Award, one of only three Pennsylvania centers to receive that honor for cancer treatment excellence.
Colorectal Cancer Diagnosis
We have the most up-to-date diagnostic services to identify colon cancer and other colorectal cancers. Tests may include sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy, barium enema, CT, MRI and PET scans. We also provide consultations (second opinions) for patients originally diagnosed elsewhere.
Colon Cancer Treatment
Our specialists are highly experienced and individualize treatment for each patient. They also conduct clinical trials research, giving patients opportunities to participate and benefit from innovative therapies.
Minimally invasive surgery (colectomy) produces excellent results with a much shorter recovery and less risk of complications than open surgery. Many patients, including older people, may be good candidates for laparoscopic colectomy.
Chemotherapy, a whole body treatment, may follow surgery. Targeted therapy also may be used.
Radiation therapy, including IMRT (intensity-modulated radiation therapy) and IGRT (image-guided radiation therapy), delivers high-powered radiation in focused beams. This targets the cancer and avoids healthy areas. Radiofrequency ablation, an interventional radiology procedure, is a minimally invasive option for patients who cannot have colorectal surgery.
Before starting any cancer treatment, talk with your oncologist about whether the therapy could affect your fertility. Our reproductive endocrinologists help with fertility preservation before cancer treatment or appropriate infertility treatment if cancer therapy has already been given.
Help Navigating Your Cancer Treatment
Whether you are newly diagnosed or in treatment, our cancer navigators provide help and support. The nurse navigator for colorectal cancer, Kelly Pressler, RN, MSN, OCN, is available at 215-481-6387 or email@example.com.
