Stroke Support

If you or someone you care about is recovering from stroke, you may feel alone in trying to understand the immense life changes stroke may cause. The Diamond Stroke Center and Abington Health offer many ways to help.

Outpatient Stroke Support Group – O.U.R. Stroke Club

For stroke survivors, families and friends. Meets second Thursday every month, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Abington Health Center – Schilling in Willow Grove. Registration required: call 215-481-3631.

Brain Injury Support Group

For survivors of brain injury from stroke or other causes, and caregivers. Meets every four months, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Abington Memorial Hospital. Registration required: call 215-481-3631.

Stroke Program Coordinator

Many questions arise after suffering a stroke or brain injury. Our stroke program coordinator, Catherine Spahr, RN, can help you and your family understand treatment and rehabilitation plans, and navigate the process. She also connects patients with neurology and neurosurgery social workers, case managers and support services. Contact Catherine by email or at 215-481-3631.

Stroke Survivor Volunteer Program

As a survivor of stroke, you have knowledge and experience that can directly support and benefit others. By volunteering, you can lend a helping hand to other stroke survivors and their caregivers. If interested, call Volunteer Services at 215-481-2490 or Catherine Spahr, stroke program coordinator, at 215-481-3627. After applying, there is an interview and three-hour volunteer orientation session.

Education for Stroke Patients and Families

Available through The Diamond Stroke Center, on AMH patient network: stroke prevention and recovery education videos. Contact 215-481-3631.

Community Stroke Education and Stroke Risk Assessments

Stroke lectures in community, by request. Stroke risk assessments monthly at Willow Grove Mall and as requested in community. To schedule a stroke lecture or risk assessment at your workplace, house of worship or community center, call 215-481-3631.
