Abington Memorial Hospital Selected As One of the Best Places to Work in the Philadelphia Region
ABINGTON, PA (November 3, 2008) - Abington Memorial Hospital has been named one of the Best Places to Work in the Philadelphia region by the Philadelphia Business Journal. The award recognizes Abington Memorial Hospital's achievements in creating a positive work environment that attracts and retains employees through a combination of benefits, working conditions and company culture.
Abington Memorial Hospital, with more than 5,000 employees, was one of more than two hundred companies/institutions to enter, securing its position on this prestigious list based on the strength of its benefits and programs, as evaluated by its employees.
"We strive to make Abington Memorial Hospital an enjoyable place to work," said Meg McGoldrick, executive vice president and chief operating officer. "Our satisfied staff brings a positive mindset to the hospital and you can really see that attitude transfer to our patients."
"AMH is proud of the work our employees do and wanted them to be recognized for making Abington Memorial Hospital a great place to work," said Meghan Patton, vice president, Human Resources. "We are honored to offer a variety of traditional, and not-so-traditional, benefits to our employees. Our birthday holiday [where employees receive a paid day off for their birthday] has always been popular, along with our new benefit of paid time off for volunteer service."
"The best places to work are companies that recognize employees as their best asset, instrumental in maintaining the quality and reputation for services and products," said Bernard Dagenais, Philadelphia Business Journal editor. "The right work environment can create a powerful business advantage."
The Philadelphia Business Journal's research partner, Wichita, Kansas-based Quantum Market Research, tabulated the results of thousands of online surveys completed by employees to establish the rank order. Common themes among top companies focused on work-life balance; respect and caring for employees; recognition of accomplishments; feeling empowered; good teamwork and commitment to community.
"We work at being open and innovative," proclaimed Patton. "And we're proud to be recognized by a respected publication for our efforts, by being named one of the Philadelphia Business Journal's Best Places to Work."
