Did you know that all breast pumps are not alike? Some are best used for increasing a low milk supply while others are great for a mom returning to work. The focus of this lecture will be guided towards breast pumps and the various types to meet your needs. This class is highly recommended in addition to attending Breastfeeding 1. They do not need to be taken in sequence.
We will review important information that a breastfeeding mom should be aware of such as:
- What type of breast pump would best suit my needs?
- Does your pump flange fit properly? An improperly fitted flange can affect your milk supply.
- What is the difference between suction and cycling of a pump and why do they matter?
- Suggestions for building your breast milk supply
- What is the best time frame to offer your baby a bottle of your milk?
- Breastmilk storage guidelines and much more~
Insurance companies are now required to follow new guidelines that will ensure women receive preventive health services at little to no additional cost to provide breastfeeding support, supplies and counseling. This class will discuss how expectant parents can navigate through these guidelines.
We will have many products including nursing bras, support pillows, lactation support items and breast pumps that will be discussed and available on display. Many of frequently used breast pumps will be used for passed around during class.
Taught by an RN with IBCLC credentials, this class is helpful to better understand which pump you would need and prepare you for how and when to use them. Our Power Point and video will also discuss returning to work as a nursing mom, breastfeeding in public and what the current laws say about your rights as an employed breastfeeding woman are included.
