Medical Student Elective Rotations
As a family medicine teaching program, we have a strong commitment to teaching medical students. Third year students from many local medical schools rotate with our residents on the Family Medicine Inpatient Service and in the Family Medicine Center. We also offer four-week and two-week fourth year elective rotations for interested medical students.
Students are incorporated into all aspects of the Family Medicine Residency during their rotations with us. The majority of student time is spent caring for patients in the outpatient setting but also may include activities such as rounding in the hospital with the family medicine residents and attendings, geriatric facility visits, and home visits. Medical students are involved in all conferences and didactic programs at the Abington Family Medicine during their rotations and participate in a series of lectures on the top 20 diagnoses in primary care specifically designed for the students. There is also the opportunity for interested students to work with our residents in other activities such as preparticipation sports physicals, outpatient office procedures and research projects and publications.
We offer a limited number of fourth year elective and sub-internship opportunities. If you are interested in applying for one of our elective spots, please request an application form from Shawn Ralston.
