Security Awareness and Crime Prevention Programs

Abington Memorial Hospital provides security and safety orientations and training sessions periodically throughout the year as the needs of the schools dictate. Security and safety information, and tips are provided in detail in the schools' handbooks.

Abington Township Police periodically offer training courses for the public relative to issues such as emergency management of various threats in the school campus setting. Training sites are conveniently located four blocks from the Schilling campus and at a similar distance from Abington Memorial Hospital's main campus. Training calendars are revised periodically and can be viewed at the Abington Township Police website at www.abington.org/police/index.htm.

Community police fairs as well as "National Night Out" cooperative community crime prevention efforts are also held several times per year. In October of each year, AMH Security holds security and safety outreach programs located in the lobbies of the Main and Schilling campuses to create awareness of security and safety issues. Information pamphlets and other educational materials are distributed to staff, students, and to the public.

The Abington Memorial Hospital Security Department has created and distributed a Guide to Aggression and Violence Management and Response at the Workplace which discusses and explains all issues relative to stages of potentially violent and criminal behavior.

In addition Abington Memorial Hospital Security provides and maintains a reference manual, specifically, Workplace Violence Prevention - A Practical Guide, published by Specialty Technical Publishers, which is located at the AMH Dixon School of Nursing Library, and is to be used by students, staff, and others as a safety resource.
