How Your Gift Helps Abington Memorial Hospital

For General Purposes

Gifts to Abington Health Foundation can be made on an unrestricted basis, where the funds are allocated to the areas where there is the greatest need.

For Special Purposes

Gifts may also be designated by the donor to a program or service area they wish to support.  Below are just some of the possible areas of Abington Memorial Hospital that you can benefit with your gift.

Animal-Assisted Therapy

The Animal-Assisted Therapy program provides therapeutic companionship to patients in a variety of hospital units and to some of our homebound patients.  Research shows that interactions between humans and animals have positive psychological and physiological benefits for hospitalized and homebound patients.

Doctors’ Day

The annual celebration of National Doctors’ Day on March 30th provides an opportunity for individuals to honor their Abington Memorial Hospital physicians who make the hospital such an important resource for the community.

Dixon School of Nursing

The Dixon School of Nursing celebrates 100 years of nursing education and excellence.  Since 1914, the School has graduated more than 3,100 students who have gone on to serve the local community and beyond as professional nurses.  Nursing scholarships can provide opportunities for outstanding students needing financial assist. 

Hanjani Institute for Gynecologic Oncology

As one of the major gynecologic cancer treatment centers in the Delaware Valley, the Hanjani Institute for Gynecologic Oncology combines the capabilities of a teaching and clinical research institution with the personal attention and convenience of a community hospital. A comprehensive team of board-certified cancer experts uses the latest technology for treating gynecologic cancer.

Heart and Vascular Institute

The Heart and Vascular Institute is one of the busiest cardiac centers in the Delaware Valley, and includes highly specialized facilities -- such as six cardiac catheterization labs, a Hybrid Operating Room and a Cardiac Intensive Care Unit -- and four specialty centers.  Working together, cardiologists and cardiothoracic and vascular surgeons coordinate a range of services that best meets the patient’s heart or vascular care needs. 

Hospice Program

Home Care’s inpatient and at-home hospice program provides coordinated services that can ease day-to-day stresses for the terminally ill and enable patients and families to enhance the time they have together.

Innovators’ Circle

Innovators’ Circle invests in the future of healthcare by providing seed money for innovative programs and creative solutions to health care challenges.  Physicians, nurses and hospital staff can apply for a grant to help launch their innovative ideas.

Institute for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery

A respected, recognized program that offers a comprehensive approach and features a full range of services, including ongoing support – with lifetime follow-up care – plus counseling, an exercise program and nutrition plans.  The most advanced surgical options, many of them minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic procedures, reduce the recovery time of conventional surgery.

The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Fund

Established more than a decade ago as a living tribute to the legacy of Dr. King, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Fund Committee has raised funds for a variety of programs at Abington Memorial Hospital, including the naming of a chapel, and scholarships for minority students in the AMH Dixon School of Nursing.

Muller Institute for Senior Health

The Muller Institute for Senior Health encompasses a myriad of award-winning inpatient and outpatient services dedicated to the treatment and wellness of older adult patients.  The team includes a fellowship-training geriatrician, geriatric fellow in training through our Geriatric Fellowship Program and geriatric clinical nurse specialists. 

Neurosciences Institute

The Neurosciences Institute offers expertise in diagnosing and treating a range of neurological disease and conditions in centers where specialty physicians with advanced training coordinate patient care. The award-winning Diamond Stroke Center has been designated a Comprehensive Stroke Center – a certification awarded to fewer than one percent of hospitals nationwide.  Other specialty centers include:  Headache Center, Multiple Sclerosis Center, Balance Center, Sleep Disorders Center and Movement Disorders Center.

The Nurse Development Fund

The Nurse Development Fund is dedicated to making grants to nurses to support off-site continuing education opportunities, ongoing skill development and paid educational sabbaticals for special training.

Orthopaedic & Spine Institute

The Orthopaedic and Spine Institute (OSI) is a premier diagnostic, medical/surgical treatment and rehabilitation center with convenient locations at both Abington Memorial Hospital and Lansdale Hospital.  The OSI provides patients with superior service at each stage of their care, from pre-admission testing and education, to state-of-the-art joint and spine surgery, rehabilitation and physical therapy. 

The Pennock Emergency Trauma Center

The Level II Emergency Trauma Center at Abington Memorial Hospital is one of the busiest in the Delaware Valley, helping more than 106,000 patients each year.  Our staff of specialists includes physicians who are board certified in Emergency Medicine, trauma surgeons, experienced physician assistants, nurse practitioners and registered nurses.  The Center is complemented by the full diagnostic, medical and surgical specialties of our tertiary-care hospital.

The Rosenfeld Cancer Center

Each year, more than 1,600 newly-diagnosed cancer patients come to Abington Memorial Hospital’s Rosenfeld Cancer Center, where they receive comprehensive cancer care at a full-service, tertiary care hospital close to home.  The award-winning Rosenfeld Cancer Center features specialized teams of highly trained cancer specialists, personal nurse navigators and the most advanced technologies and therapies.

Safe Harbor

The award-winning Safe Harbor program provides ongoing grief support for children, teens and their families.  Six staff members and more than 50 professional volunteers facilitate groups in which children share their stories, play games, engage in art and music and participate in numerous activities to help them cope during the critical time of bereavement.

The Andrew Tesauro Special Care Nursery

A Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), the Andrew Tesauro Special Care Nursery provides high-tech, high-touch care to high-risk and premature infants.  The nursery is a 34-bed unit with acute care and continuing care beds, as well as dedicated nursing care and sophisticated technology.  The NICU is also a referral center for babies born at other local hospitals in need of our services.
