About the Hiring Process - What to Expect
Abington – Jefferson Health receives thousands of online applications each year and unfortunately cannot respond directly to everyone but we do try to update your status on-line regularly. Here’s a brief look at how the hiring process at Abington works:
Applicants are reviewed on a regular basis. If your background, skills and qualifications are a strong match with the position for which you applied, a Human Resources representative will contact you to set up a phone or in-person interview. Please check the status of your application on-line for updated information. We may also contact you via e-mail
Those who are scheduled for an in-person interview will be required to fill out paperwork to move the interviewing process along. This includes a signed job application, three professional reference forms, and a background check form. Interview appointments take an average of two to three hours.
Part of our interviewing process could include a “peer interview” with others in the department you are being considered for. This can take place anytime after the initial interview..
If you advance past the final interview, your three references will be checked prior to making an offer
Offers are extended via a representative from Human Resources. If an offer is extended, it is contingent upon you passing a physical and background check, and primary source verification of any required license or certifications.
Post Offer Physical
It typically takes two weeks for the physical and background check process to be completed. The physical examination is conducted at the Abington – Jefferson Health employee health department which is located on the Abington Hospital campus and includes:
- a urinalysis screening for illegal drugs and nicotine.
- Blood analysis for immunization effectiveness
- Two-step TB Skin Testing
- Flu shot documentation review or administration.
**Please note that Abington – Jefferson Health requires annual flu shots for all employees and will not hire individuals who actively use nicotine.
Post Offer Background Check
Prior to your start date, a background check will be completed and must be consistent with the information disclosed on your signed application.
It can take 24 hours up to 6 weeks for the criminal history report clearance. Abington uses a third party to check state, county and national databases for criminal history. We will also verify any credentials and/or education required by the job description.
Please note: If you do not disclose a prior criminal record it is considered falsification of your application and grounds for termination. We follow FCRA guidelines for background verification.
A child abuse clearance must be completed prior to your start date if your position provides significant care, supervision or guidance of minors. This screening is at the cost of the applicant.
An offer can be withdrawn on the following conditions: a failed physical, background check, or child abuse check, or falsification of your job application.
All new employees are required to attend mandatory OSHA (occupational safety) training on your first day and will be scheduled to attend New Employee Orientation.
